Petty things that annoy me!
1. People who stop and wait for a park in a busy parking lot when they see someone going back to their car, no matter how long that person is going to take, how many bags of shopping they have, how many snotty nosed kids they have to strap in, how many angry people are being held up as a result!
2. People who whip their smartphones out at the dinner table when they're dining with you for ANY reason. Etiquette is virtually non existent these days.
3. People who use public transport and don't wear deodorant! Those buses are airtight, people! I don't want your armpit smell molecules near my person, thankyou!
4. Professional musicians who bitch and moan about their paid gigs! 2 words: FUCK YOU! If you don't like it, quit, you selfish pricks!!! Let one of us who would kill for your job have the opportunity!
5. Uni students who apply for competitive courses just bacause it has a high ATAR, not because they want to do it. Again, selfish much??? There are entirely too many people who missed out on medicine doing physiotherapy when they aren't even interested in it, whilst others are struggling to qualify for the ridiculous entry score because these people take all the places.
6. People who don't acknowledge you with a wave when you let them in front of you in heavy traffic.
7. People who, when they have a baby, can't talk about anything else. Guess what? I DON'T CARE. Happy for you that you have a child and it's healthy. Happy to hear about actual amazing milestones, like if a kid wins something or even says something that is hilarious (to others as well as you). But NOT happy for the product of your loins to be all I hear about. Your child = not the most interesting thing in my life. In fact, your child = probably the least interesting thing in my life. I knew you before your child. You were a person before you pushed a creature out of your snatch. I'd prefer to speak to my friend, not "Joe Blogg's mummy". Luckily most (not all but most) of my friends are good with this.
8. People who think the music they play on Triple J is good just because it's not mainstream. Just because it isn't on commercial radio and has the 'indie tag' or alternative label attached to it DOES NOT make it good. And just because some music is mainstream doesn't make it bad either. There's good and crap music in any genre but I find the pretentiousness of radio stations like this and its presenters to be nausea inducing. I don't like commercial radio either, mind you, with radio presenters who think they are funny when they're not, shock jocks like Kyle Sandilands to say whatever they want WHENEVER they want with no consideration to who they offend, constant cross promotion and advertising snuck in to every minute of airtime. But I find the condescension of the former to be harder to stomach, esp. when much of the 'music' played on that station is devoid of any ascertainable musical worth. There's a reason why some of it isn't played commercially. It's rubbish! And I'm sure that if Sony BMG offered a contract to any of these acts, they'd take it in a heartbeat, regardless of their commercial status - hypocritical really...
9. Uni students who don't read the course materials. People, it's not fucking hard! Stop flooding the forum, and subsequently my email, with questions that are clearly answered in the Course Outline we got in the first week! Or how about going to the lectures and you'll find out what will be in the exam??!! If you need everything handed to you on a platter now, God help you in the workforce!
10. Brass bandies who insult woodwind players. Concert band might not be your cup of tea (just as a heavy metal band might not) but to say 'all clarinets sound like bagpipes' or 'concert bands sound screechy and out of tune' is rude, unfair and downright ignorant. There are some fabulous woodwind musicians out there in the Adelaide community who could teach some of you brass musicians or two about musicality. I have never heard a concert bandie criticise the sound of a brass band but the amount of brass players spouting vitriol about concert bands lately has been, frankly, unacceptable!
